Designed for children and teens with Asperger’s Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, and related challenges, Camp Connect offers programming and supports designed to support social skills and thinking development and practice. Camp Connect is a 6-week session followed by Camp Connect Lite for the last three weeks of the Summer Camp season.
Campers exhibit immature or impaired social skills and intellectual skills near or above grade level, without significant behavioral challenges. Common diagnoses of Camp Connect campers are Asperger’s Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, PDD-NOS, and Nonverbal Learning Disorder. Campers are placed in groups of approximately 6 campers based on age, interest, and learning style and are supervised by counselors; experienced supervisors support all camper groups.
In addition to regular camp activities, Camp Connect campers participate in twice-weekly Social Skills Groups addressing specific social thinking/skills through explicit instruction, hands-on activities, and team-building activities.
The counseling staff of Camp Connect receives specific training regarding Autism Spectrum Disorders, social skills instruction/supports with a focus on social facilitation, sensory integration, and understanding and responding to the purpose of behavior.
Camp Connect has two sessions:
